Kevin Matthews
a native Tulsan, is a devoted family
man, community leader, entrepreneur, business advocate, and friend of
many. He has two children, Kevin Jr. fourteen and Sterling eleven.
Kevin Matthews Sr.
has an Associates degree in Fire Technology, over 112 hrs towards a
Bachelors Degree in Management and Organizational Leadership, Competent
Toastmaster Certification, Metro Chamber Fastrac business course, and a
Leadership Tulsa Graduate. He is currently the Administrative Chief of the
Tulsa Fire Department
In 1995, Kevin Matthews’
friends participated in the Million Man March. Kevin was unable to attend,
however, he was excited about the spirit of unity demonstrated among African
Americans coming together peacefully to make a difference in the community. He
wanted the same camaraderie and support to continue in Tulsa. Kevin realized
there was no adequate way for small and minority business owners to communicate,
buy, and sell to each other. The consumers in Tulsa were not knowledgeable
about these businesses and what they had to offer. He felt the only way the
community would flourish is that they support the businesses in their own “back
yard”. So, he began inviting business professionals, community representatives
and friends to monthly Networking dinners at his house. This was a way of
introducing new people in Tulsa to some of the key members in the minority
community. Initially, attendees wrote their contact information on a sheet of
paper. Eventually business cards were distributed and evolved into a small
business directory that was first printed in the fall of 1996. The next
directory was printed on green paper. Thus, Networks Tulsa Green Pages was
born.
